Bioderma Sebium Skincare Review!

I'm excited to talk about the Bioderma Sebium skincare range, designed for those with oily, acne-prone, or combination skin. I'll be reviewing the 4 products I've picked up from the collection, all of which I've been using for some time. I hope this helps anyone who's looking for new skincare items, or has been wondering if Bioderma products are the right way to go. Let's get started!

The first product on our list is the Bioderma Sebium H2O:

This product is a clear, water-like micelle solution designed to cleanse and purify combination or oily skin. It's also meant to regulate sebum (oil) production and quality, making your skin less shiny and breakout-prone over time, without ever causing dryness or irritation.
After consistently using Sebium H2O for more than six months, I absolutely love this product and truly feel that I could not live without it. I use this as my makeup remover (applied to a cotton round), because it works fabulously and takes off even the heaviest of foundations with a single swipe. When I haven't been wearing makeup, I still use this. It's wonderful to lightly cleanse your skin when you're in a rush or don't want to risk over-drying with a foam/cream cleanser. This feels like water on your skin, and you'll find it difficult to believe that you're using a product at all. Overall, this is a great multi-purpose item for anyone looking to regulate oil.

Sebium AKN prevents the production of excess sebum, rendering your skin more smooth, and reducing the appearance of both current and future imperfections. It's active ingredients (including zinc gluconate) quickly go to work - they cleanse pores, purify skin, and slow down overproduction of oil and the proliferation of micro-organisms that cause blemishes and imperfections. It's also designed to reduce redness and irritation, while resurfacing for a smoother, more even texture.
I've been using AKN for about four months, and I truly can't think of a bad thing to say about it. This can be used to hydrate (after cleansing) in the morning and night, or it can be mixed in with whatever moisturiser you're currently using. The texture is gel-like, and it's hydrating without feeling oily, greasy, or thick. As with all Bioderma products, it absorbs quickly into the skin without leaving residue. In terms of skincare benefits, it does exactly what it says it will, which is wonderful. I notice that my skin is more smooth, redness and hyper-pigmentation are less visible, and my skin is consistently less oily throughout the day. That means that this makes a great morning moisturiser/makeup base to prolong foundation wear.

Next up is the Sebium Pore Refiner! As someone with combination skin, I know that large, visible pores often come as a package deal with excess oil. Bioderma says that this product will address all of the factors that contribute to the dilation and deformation of pores - including stress, oil, and pollution. The Pore Refiner is designed to improve the skin's appearance, making it more smooth, clear, and refined, and of course, to make pores less visible. It controls sebum quantity and quality to prevent blocked or inflamed pores, and contains antioxidants to improve skin's radiance.
Those are definitely some large claims, so I was excited to see whether or not the product lived up to the description. I've used it for over 4 months now, so I think it's safe to say I've had a chance to try it out. Overall, this product is wonderful. It is absorbed by the skin quickly, leaving nothing behind, and feels incredibly light and fresh. It gives a similar velvety-smooth finish to a silicone-based primer, like Benefit's Porefessional, but definitely doesn't feel as thick on my skin. Sebium Pore Refiner will make a difference for your skin; pores look smaller and less obvious with continued use. That said, don't expect a miracle cream that will make your pores invisible. This simply smooths and refines. I thought that this was excellent at evening out the surface of my skin. It makes a lovely makeup base and can even be used in place of a heavy primer.

Sebium Global is a new addition to Bioderma's skincare lineup. This product is made to restore the balance of your skin, and purify it to prevent future breakouts and irritation. It biologically treats the causes of acne, while hydrating the skin and regulating sebum. Just like AKN, this contains zinc gluconate (along with AHA esters and enoxolene), and promises to reduce blemishes and imperfections, create clear skin that's free of redness, and leave skin soft, balanced, and purified. This is also designed to help reduce the appearance of acne scarring, which is a pretty big problem for me, as I've had acne in the past.
As this product has just recently been launched, I've only owned it for approximately three weeks. But I've been using it daily, and I absolutely love it. The lightweight, easily-absorbed gel formula makes it simple to use, either mixed in with your moisturiser or as a base before makeup. While Sebium AKN is more hydrating, Sebium Global is a more purifying product, meant to target certain areas with it's active ingredients. It's a little less moisturising, but I would never call it dry. It simply melts into your skin and then you can forget about it! This has certainly helped to keep redness at bay and to make my skin smooth and blemish-free. I also think that it's helped with my acne scarring, as someone told me the other day that they couldn't tell the difference between my skin with foundation and without. As someone who has suffered from severe acne, that's basically a miracle.

Overall, I'm extremely impressed with the Bioderma Sebium skincare line. Their products are formulated with active ingredients that actually work, and they're never heavy, drying, or greasy. I trust Sebium products to help keep blemishes, oil, and redness under control, and they always do their job. I especially love how this line addresses the biological and environmental causes of acne and irritation. A definite must-try for those with oily or combo skin!

  2. great reviews! i've not really tried anything from bioderma aside from the obvious sensibo h20 but i've really wanted to see what the rest of their range is like. it can be hard to tell what each product is meant to do , what skin type it's meant for and how you should be using it, especially because most of the packaging is in french so i appreciate the detailed reviews, i'll definitely keep this in mind when i make my next purchase from bioderma.

  3. I agree, the pore refiner is awesome!
And thanks so much - I appreciate that. It took a little bit of research to find out the info, so I know that it can be difficult to decipher the packaging in stores. Hope it helped :)
