Stila In The Moment Eye Shadow Palette Review!

I promised I'd keep you guys up to date with what I think of the products I purchased in a recent (giant) Sephora haul. Today I'm bringing you my thoughts on the Stila In The Moment palette!

So, what's it like? How does the shadow apply? Do you really need this palette to complete your collection? And if you choose to pass it up, what are you missing out on?

The In The Moment palette is part of a collection of eyeshadow palettes released by Stila, each with a different colour theme. In The Light is more neutral, In The Garden features more earthy tones, and In The Know is made up of warm matte shades.

This palette boasts ten beautiful pans of eye shadow. The stunning colours, including the deep purple, warm copper, and brilliant gold, drew me to In The Moment immediately. The palette also comes with a Smudge Stick Waterproof Eye Liner in Tetra, a shimmering purple that complements the shades of eye shadow. Stila's description of the product is as follows:

Savour life's everyday pleasures with this beautiful collection of Stila's award-winning eye shadows, featuring a mix of pretty purples and ultra-wearable, neutral shades that flatter every skintone and can be worn wet or dry.

From left to right, colours are: Instinct, Impulse, Glance, Improvise, Catalyst,
 Desire, Wonder, Spontaneous, Whim, Captivate

So overall, how do the shades apply? For the most part, extremely well. The colours are highly pigmented and have a rich, buttery texture that makes application easy. I noticed some fallout from the more glittery and shimmery shades, which in my experience is common with Stila shadows. However, it's nothing you can't easily wipe away. Just make sure that you apply your eye makeup before your under eye concealer when you're planning on using this palette.

The texture is amazing. The colours are gorgeous. But do you really need it? Let's find out.

From top to bottom: Instinct, Desire

The first two shades in the palette are light, soft colours perfect for highlighting near the inner corner or brow bone. Instinct is comparable to Stila's Kitten eye shadow, although it's a little more warm and less pink toned than the iconic shade. It's shimmery, but it never looks chunky. And it actually contains a lot of pigment so that the colour in the pan shows up on your eye - it's not simply white glitter. Instinct is beautiful and one of my top picks for a subtle, classy way to brighten your inner corners. The second shade, Desire, is a soft matte pink. Out of all the shadows, this one was probably the chalkiest. But while it lacks a bit of pigment, it still applies with relative ease and works nicely as base on the inner lid or as a natural brow highlight.

From top to bottom: Impulse, Wonder

Secondly, In The Moment brings us two more stunning shimmers. Impulse shares the same beautiful texture as Instinct, managing to shine without becoming chunky. The glitter is so fine that it's virtually impossible to see, giving Impulse a lovely, smooth formula. The colour is a bright, slightly cool-toned mauve that's surprisingly wearable in a variety of looks. Who says a neutral eye can't use some purple? Wonder is a warm, shimmery bronze that applies just as beautifully as the other shadows. This is a great colour to use on the lid to add shimmer without bringing in anything too light.

From top to bottom: Glance, Spontaneous

These colours are what really sets In The Moment apart from many other palettes on the market these days. You can find beautiful champagnes and neutral browns anywhere, so I love that this incorporates some stand-out, eye catching shades. Glance is a rich, heavily pigmented, cool-toned purple. It applies like a dream and looks stunning. When I first purchased this palette, I was a little worried that it might be hard to incorporate a bright purple into everyday eye looks, but Glance has proved me wrong as it complements so many browns and taupes that I already own. Spontaneous is a bright, warm colour that looks as though someone has melted down a bar of gold and stuck it in this palette. Beautiful, beautiful, beautiful! Every good eye shadow palette needs a rich, pigmented gold to highlight the lid or brighten underneath the lower lashline.

From top to bottom: Improvise, Whim

Now we move into darker, yet still easily wearable shades. Improvise is a deep, pigmented plum with flecks of purple glitter. This intense shade can be used to create a rich smoky eye, deepen a crease, or enhance the upper or lower lashline. It's a great alternative to the dark browns that neutral palettes so often feature, and works well to make any eye colour pop. Whim is one of my favourite shades in the palette. It's a warm copper that I feel I've been waiting for my entire life. This goes with everything, and can be used in all my usual everyday looks. It applies smoothly and without a ton of fallout. This shade could also be a staple in taking In The Moment from day to night, as it can be very eye catching and intense if applied all over the lid or blended into the crease. I'm in love.

From top to bottom, Catalyst, Captivate

For the final shades in the palette, we're given some rich, dark colours. Catalyst is a purpley black with purple glitter. This is such a gorgeous shade, and a wonderful alternative to plain black shadows, which can sometimes close off eyes or look too harsh. The purple will soften the look and enhance your eyes, making this a great pick for a dark smoky eye or a dramatic crease. Captivate is a taupe-brown with light purple glitter. Again, I love the addition of some added sparkle to give these shades an unexpected twist. This colour will make any eyes pop, while still remaining quite neutral-looking. It's the perfect way to wear purple because it never overwhelms.

Stila Smudge Stick Waterproof Eye Liner in Tetra (shimmering purple)

Lastly, we're given one of Stila's famous Smudge Stick eye liners in Tetra, a deep purple with shimmer. I like the choice of the purple as opposed to typical brown or black liners found in palettes. This one definitely does a great job of complementing the eye shadows, and the sparkle doesn't overwhelm. It's a rich, royal purple that really makes the colours in the palette pop. It causes the purples to appear more noticeable and allows the warm tones of shades like Spontaneous and Whim to take centre stage. As for application, it's a highly pigmented formula that goes on smoothly and evenly - exactly what you'd expect from a brand like Stila.

Stila's In The Moment palette features more than your run-of-the-mill neutrals, and I think that sets it apart. This is a gorgeous choice for those who want to incorporate some eye catching colour into their looks without going overboard or being too dramatic. It's also great for anyone who doesn't own many eye shadows and is looking for a starter palette - you'll find plenty of wearable, flattering shades, but you'll also get some versatile, bold colours that provide contrast and definition. I especially love the infusion of sparkle and colour into some typical shades, and the addition of a stunning gold and beautiful copper. Even if you have many shadows already, I'm going to recommend this product for purchase. I think you'll reach for it because of the variety and uniqueness of the palette. In The Moment refuses to be lost in a sea of neutrals, and that's why I love it.
